Alanco's StarTrak Announces
ReeferTrak® Partnership with SkyBitz, Inc.
(Scottsdale, AZ – March 10, 2008) – Alanco Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALAN), announced today that its StarTrak subsidiary, the leader in transport refrigeration wireless monitoring and control systems, has forged a partnership with SkyBitz, Inc., the leading satellite-based asset tracking and information management service provider, to deliver a StarTrak ReeferTrak® cold chain wireless management platform that utilizes the SkyBitz satellite communications network. SkyBitz has placed an initial order for 500 ReeferTrak devices for their fleet customers, while both companies will offer this new service to their respective customer bases. SkyBitz’s Reefer Control Service exclusively utilizes StarTrak’s information technology infrastructure, which is delivered to SkyBitz customers as data “powered by StarTrak.”
The new StarTrak/SkyBitz offering permits seamless integration of dry van, bulk and refrigerated truck/trailer monitoring systems over a broad-coverage, low power satellite system, and complements StarTrak’s other satellite and cellular connected ReeferTrak products. The ReeferTrak system supports every reefer model offered by both major reefer OEM’s. In common with all ReeferTrak data services, the new partnership solution provides for real-time reefer status, GPS position, operating state, temperatures, fuel levels, alarm status, engine hours and supports two-way commands to change temperature set points and clear alarms within minutes.
This new, more affordable satellite service supplements StarTrak’s existing cellular-based ReeferTrak service allowing freight customers, who often have unique telematics needs, to select either mode of communication to optimize their refrigerated fleet operation. This flexibility allows customers to mix and match communications platforms to achieve the optimal tradeoff between broad coverage from the satellite system and the higher data rates available from StarTrak’s cellular solution.
Tim Slifkin, StarTrak Systems President, commented, “With over 20,000 ReeferTrak units installed, StarTrak is the leading provider of two-way control systems for cold chain assets. SkyBitz is North America’s largest satellite-based trailer-tracking provider with over 140,000 wireless devices installed in over 450 customer fleets. SkyBitz’s exclusive commitment to StarTrak provides us with direct market access to this significant segment in the trailer-tracking market. The SkyBitz agreement is a further extension of our strategy of offering the ReeferTrak infrastructure “powered by StarTrak” to partners with established sales channels as a means to cost efficiently increase our installed customer base and data service revenues, while providing a more comprehensive, multi-vendor solution to the marketplace.”
Homaira Akbari, SkyBitz CEO, stated, “Our customers are always looking to increase operating efficiencies, and the SkyBitz Reefer Control offering is a vital tool to help them quickly achieve those business objectives. Our intelligent sensor technologies have been adopted by fleet owners who recognize that tracking and monitoring technology is a key component in the ability to make better business decisions, protect assets and cargo and produce visible results to an improved bottom line.”
